Lockdown: Philippine president condemns violation, orders shoot on sight

Philippine President, Rodrigo Duterte, has ordered the country’s police and military officers to shoot dead anyone found causing trouble during the lockdown period of the Island of Luzon.
He made the warning after residents of a slum in Manila’s Quezon City staged a protest along a highway near her shanty houses, claiming they had not received any food pack as relief materials in the period of lockdown.
Duterte disclosed this in a televised address on Wednesday April 1st, 2020.
“Let this be a warning to all. Follow the government at this time because it is critical that we have order,” he noted.
“And do not harm the health workers, the doctor because that is a serious crime. My order to the police and the military is that if anyone creates trouble, their lives are in danger. Then, shoot them dead.” he added
“Do not intimidate the government. Do not challenge the government. You will lose,” he concluded.
One of those involved in the protest said they had no other choice than to stage the protest because there was no food for them during the lockdown.
Jocy Lopez said, “We are here to call for help because of hunger. We have not been given food, rice, groceries or cash. We have no work; who do we turn to?”
