Following the unfortunate attack in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders has, according to reports, condemned the terrorist attack committed and expressed his condolences to the Government and people of Burkina Faso.
The Embassy in Ouagadougou has sent a message to all Belgian citizens on site, asking them to stay or go home. At this stage, there is no indication of the presence of fellow citizens among the victims.

As a matter of fact, the attack on civilians reiterates the need to continue and to strengthen the international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, particularly in the Sahel region, and to support the efforts of local authorities. It is therefore reported that Didier Reynders will soon visit the region to evaluate the situation on the ground, including the cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

In the same light, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, following the armed attack perpetrated on the “Istanbul” restaurant in Ouagadougou has condemned it in equal proportion, noting that solidarity must live to ensure the victory against terrorism.

“I firmly condemn last night’s vile attack on a Turkish restaurant in Ouagadougou. We join the relatives of the victims in their grief and we express our sympathy to the injured, confiding in their prompt recovery.

“To the Government of Burkina Faso, to which we are bound by ties of friendship, we convey our solidarity and the assurance that they will always be able to count on Italy in fighting terrorism and religious extremism.”
