Amidst the unfortunate crisis yet to be resolved in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Lautech), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, the school is in the News again. This time, courtesy of a ground breaking achievement from her students who won’t allow the ongoing strike actions incapacitate their strength, ability and their becoming.

Yesterday, 14th of July, at the grand finale of the Professor Awojobi Design Competition, in J.F Ade Ajayi Auditorium, two teams from Lautech, who made it through to the stage did the university proud as they emerge over all first and third in the All University Engineering Design Contest hosted by the University of Lagos.

According to reports gathered, the “engineering based competition was opened for all undergraduate engineering students to show the world innovative things they have personally developed around solving a particular problem.”

For the final, seven teams reportedly made it to exhibit their designs. Two teams from the hosting school, two from Lautech, and the other three from Futminna, U.I., and Covenant University. Team Mufasa, from Lautech, following their 696 twitter votes accumulated during the public choice voting, landed in the grand finale to later emerge as the winning team for the maiden edition of the competition. Team PPG, on the other hand, after accumulating 748 twitter votes, entered the final and finished as second runner up.

With the declaration of Mufasa, Eco and PPG as first, second and third respectively, Team Mufasa went away with a sum of N200, 000 while Team PPG went home with N100, 000 as rewards for their high class design insight around their field. According to Olagunju Hameed, one of Team Mufasa’s ambassadors, entering into the contest and winning is as a result of their refusal to dwell on the negativity of the impending strike actions in the university but rather seizing opportunities around this misfortune.

Also responding in an interview with Maryam Oladepo, on the feat, Teslim Lawal, who led the PPG team urged students to learn how to marry practical applications with the theories of the lecture rooms. According to him, his share of the money will go into the development of some of his new projects.

In a short message from the Editor-in-Chief of The Campus Ambassadors (TCA Lautech), Adegbola Ridwan Babatunde, on behalf of the club extended his congratulations to both teams for doing the school proud, wishing them greater exploit as they push forward in excellence.

“I am super excited to learn about these winnings at the long anticipated grand finale. You guys do us proud with this. My congratulations, colleagues. Keep the torch aloft,” the Editor-in-Chief (Amb. Detunes, Adegbola Ridwan) commended.
