African Union’s Jeremiah Mamabolo opens this year’s Eid greetings
As the holy month of Ramadan draws gradually to an end, with about three-four days to Eid celebration, African Union’s’ Jeremiah Mamabolo has issued his greeting to Muslims and the Government of Sudan, wishing them a wonderful celebration in advance.
This is contained in a Press release as published by APO, on behalf of African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). The Special Representative/Joint Chief Mediator is quoted to have affirmed that Eid al-Fitr is a period of showing and extending love, kindness, compassion and forgiveness.
“On behalf of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), I would like to extend greetings and best wishes to the people and Government of Sudan on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak.”
“Eid al-Fitr is a time for love, kindness, compassion and forgiveness. These qualities are the essence of Islam. Eid is a time of joy and celebration; a time to make peace with all neighbors, relatives and friends, and resolve differences.”
The AU Representative reminded Muslims to connect with their families while demonstrating peace, tolerance and love. He however seized the opportunity to reinstate the UNAMID’ commitment to exert efforts in the support of peace building.
“This auspicious occasion provides an opportunity to rejuvenate bonds of kinship, peace and demonstrate tolerance and love towards each other. In the context of Darfur, it is to be hoped that the goodwill of the season will add a new impetus to peace and reconciliation. The people of Darfur deserve nothing less.”
“I would like to reiterate UNAMID’s deep commitment to exert all possible efforts, within its mandate, capability and available resources, to support peace and reconciliation efforts across Darfur.
