Dear Peace December family:

It is with profound sadness that I write this announcement. Rev. Danny Diaz, one of the speakers at our June Peacemakers Dinner, has returned to his maker two nights ago during his sleep. Rev. Diaz was one person who need no introduction to anyone in New York and beyond.  If you do not know him in person, you certainly are familiar with his noble causes. He louder and most visible than anyone else in advocating for justice, equality, respect, fairness and peaceful coexistence.  While we’re all painfully mourning his early departure, we’re comforted by our Creator with the following promise in our Holy Qu’ran:

“Those who believe (in the Qur’an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in God and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”  Holy Quran 2:62

This is Reverend Danny Diaz’s last communication with me a day before he return to his makers.

“Come out and learn about this youth led movement for restorative justice in the Bronx! We already know that broken window policies do not work with our youth and that the court room or prison cell is not the environment conducive to restoring our youth but in fact criminalizes them. Come out and hear the powerful testimonies by youth we have been positively impacting through success centers which implement restorative justice policies. Come out and hear about a restorative justice plan which were demanding the Mayors administration to implement in the Department of Education. If you have a burden for our youth this is the time and place to be. If you have children within the Department of Education you should not miss this event! We have the opportunity of changing the future and destiny of hundreds of thousands of New York City students. Come out and be a part of NYC history discovering your role in implementing prophetic justice. God has called us to put an end to the school to prison pipeline!

“Musa I didn’t get to say hi to you today my brother. I hope you can join me tomorrow my brother! This is a youth led movement for restorative justice within the Department of Education! We need you here tomorrow so we can support one another in our struggle for peace and conflict resolution! I hope to see you tomorrow.”

Always, always, always serving the underdogs, always……………………………………..

Please join us in dedicating our July Peacemakers Dinner to the life and legacy of our Reverend, The Justice Champion, Diaz! Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and all New Yorkers.
