MAJORITY LEADER VAN BRAMER’S STATEMENT ON THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CLUB PURLIEU

TODAY, Friday, March 11th, Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer released the following statement on the temporary closure of Club Purlieu in Dutch Kills, the site of a violent shooting last weekend. Every week, the NYPD is forced to waste its resources patrolling this bad business. Club Purlieu has a long history of arrests for shootings, stabbings, and robberies, including a shooting last week of an innocent cab driver who was dropping of patrons at the club.

“I’m glad to announce that, working with community members and the 114th Precinct, we were able to temporarily shut down Club Purlieu—a bad business, with a history of arrests, shootings, stabbings and robberies, that wastes precious NYPD resources every weekend,” said Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer. “But the fight isn’t over, and the club might be allowed to re-open as soon as tonight. We need to rally together to make sure the doors stay shut for good. Club Purlieu fosters violence, and it’s not the kind of business we want in our community or our city. That’s why we will rally on Monday morning at 9:30 in front of the club to demand that it is permanently shut down.”
