Canada has condemned the unnecessary killings in Mali.

The condemnation comes after two French soldiers getting shot dead yesterday in Mali.

A statement issued yesterday by Canada’s foreign affairs minister John Baird said,

“Canada condemns the barbaric murder of two French journalists in Mali earlier today.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of the victims, and we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people and government of France.

“Canada hopes that those responsible are brought to justice.

“This shows how precarious the security situation remains in northern Mali, especially in the region of Kidal, where Islamist terrorists and Tuareg rebels are still very active despite the presence of several hundred French and UN troops.

“We urge the Government of Mali to continue to work with the United Nations and its international partners to combat the scourge of terrorism in the region.”
