Uganda mourns president’s father

Ugandans are mourning the death of their president’s father.

Mzee Amos Kaguta, the father of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni passed on early today morning in a Kampala hospital.

In Kirihura district where Museveni hails,about 350 kms west of Kampala, most people got shocked by the death of Kaguta. Most of them have not gone to the gardens to work as they mourn their president’s father.

State house deputy press secretary. Lindah Nabusayi today issued a statement saying, ‘President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all the Kaguta family wish to announce the death of their father, grandfather and great grandfather Mzee Amos Kaguta 96, which occurred today February 22, 2013 at 07.00hrs at International Hospital in Kampala.

The family thanks most sincerely all the doctors who cared for Mzee Kaguta during his last moments. Burial arrangements will be announced later.

‘As we celebrate the life of Mzee Kaguta and the great contribution he has made to this country, and as we mourn his passing on we request that the media please respect the family privacy during this time. The President is right now in Rwakitura with family. Any information about the arrangements being done by the family will be announced in due course.’

The mother of Museveni passed away about 5 years ago at the same hospital. Life expectation in Uganda is currently 50 years and his living up to 96 is appreciated by some Ugandans.
