Ugands’s president Yoweri Museveni has revealed that the National resistance Movement (NRM) Government has resolved to ensure that the refining of Uganda’s oil takes place within the country in order to maximize its benefits.
The President was last evening receiving at State House, Nakasero, the visiting new Malawi President, Joyce Banda, who arrived in the country yesterday to attend the COMESA Summit that opened in Kampala earlier today.
He emphasized that emphasizing addition of value to our products will go a long way ensuring that the oil by-products benefit the country.
President Museveni and his guest exchanged views on matters pertaining to the Pan African process.
President Banda saluted President Museveni for the hospitality accorded to her since her arrival in the country. She briefed him on the prevailing economic situation in Malawi and said her administration is emphasizing the promotion of the energy, mining, infrastructure and tourism sectors as a way of boosting the economy of Malawi. She also expressed her concern over the depletion of the environment on the African continent saying that the drying up of most
rivers on the continent is a very unhealthy development.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sam Kuteesa, among others.
