Qatar announces public holiday to boost participation in referendum
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar has announced Tuesday, November 5, 2024, as a day off for public and private school students as the nation prepares for a constitutional amendment referendum.
The holiday is geared towards boosting participation in the decision-making process and facilitating the involvement of citizens aged 18 and above in the general referendum on the draft constitutional amendments.
The day off applies to both academic and administrative staff of public and private schools, ensuring that everyone can participate in this important event. However, students of universities and higher education institutions across the country are required to attend their classes as usual.
Qatar’s constitutional amendment seeks to enhance the principle of equality among citizens in rights and duties, reflecting national unity and strengthening social cohesion between the people and the leadership.
It is equally seen as a civilized approach to change, showcasing the wise leadership’s commitment to working with the social covenant on which the state was founded. The move also seeks to strengthen the relationship between the ruling family and the Qatari people.
