In the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has issued an advisory, urging residents to take proactive measures to ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply during the upcoming rainy season.

As the rain approaches, DEWA stressed the importance of being prepared to prevent potential electrical malfunctions and outages.

To safeguard against electrical issues, DEWA recommends residents take the following precautionary steps: Ensure all external electrical connections, panels, and meter boxes are waterproof and properly insulated to prevent water damage, securely close electrical panels to prevent moisture entry, replace the glass cover of the electricity meter if broken to maintain a secure seal.

Other measures are sealing any openings in electrical conduits on roofs to prevent water ingress, and inspecting earthing cables to ensure stable and safe power supply.

DEWA stresses the significance of regular maintenance by a qualified electrician to identify and address potential electrical issues before they become major problems. This proactive approach will help prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage.

In case of technical emergencies, residents have been advised to contact DEWA’s dedicated 24/7 hotline at 991 for prompt assistance.

The United Arab Emirates experiences scorching summers and warm winters due to its subtropical-arid environment. It is classified as a desert climate.

During the winter, the coastal region has brief, intense downpours of rain, which can occasionally cause flooding in normally dry wadi beds.
