The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have reiterated their strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, including the deliberate targeting of civilians, forced displacement, and attacks on the West Bank.

They urged the international community to apply pressure on Israel to immediately cease its aggression and fulfill its legal obligations, allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, particularly the right to self-determination.

This stance was delivered by HE Dr. Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, on behalf of the GCC countries during a general discussion under agenda Item 3 at the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The GCC countries stressed that discussions on the rule of law and accountability, as outlined in the High Commissioner’s report, must also address the Israeli aggression on Gaza, which is approaching its first anniversary amidst clear violations of international law and basic humanitarian principles.

The GCC further acknowledged the importance of digital education for youth and called for establishing legal frameworks that ensure affordable access to digital education.

They also expressed concern over the neglect of the elderly, emphasizing the need for comprehensive legal protections to safeguard their dignity and rights.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) brings together six Arab countries – Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – to further political and economic integration amongst them.
