Iraq, World Bank discuss development projects financing
The Iraqi Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, met on Monday with a delegation from the World Bank headed by the Regional Director for the Middle East, Jean-Christophe Carret, to discuss cooperation in economic and social development.
The meeting addressed the World Bank’s support for transport, railway, and infrastructure projects related to Iraq’s strategic project of the Development Road, which will link Iraq with the European continent through Turkey, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Finance Ministry.
The statement also mentioned that the meeting also tackled financing the programs of Iraq’s Social Fund for Development.
These projects aim to improve the quality of services provided to Iraqi citizens, promote economic growth, and provide new job opportunities.
These initiatives are designed to promote small and medium-sized businesses, lower unemployment and poverty rates, and expand the road and transportation network in Iraq.
The two sides expressed hope that successful cooperation agreements could be reached to help Iraq achieve sustainable growth.
