Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, convened with British Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho, alongside her delegation in Riyadh on Monday, marking a pivotal dialogue aimed at bolstering energy collaboration between the two nations.

The meeting, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency, delved into the spectrum of bilateral relations, with a keen focus on avenues for mutual cooperation across various energy domains. Central to their discussions was an assessment of future opportunities within the energy sector, anchored within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation inked between the governments of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.

Of particular significance were deliberations surrounding the development of robust standards for clean hydrogen, anchored in emissions without sources. Additionally, regulatory frameworks and policies pertaining to carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and storage activities were scrutinized. The agenda also encompassed the localization of energy components, fostering an exchange of pertinent experiences, and the formulation of accompanying regulations and policies.

The meeting underscored the Kingdom’s proactive stance in addressing climate change challenges through a gamut of local and regional initiatives. Foremost among these are the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, alongside the endeavors of the Oil Demand Sustainability Program.

Both parties further explored avenues for bolstering cooperation in renewable energy, petrochemicals, power plants, and the localization of energy sector components. A shared aspiration was expressed for companies from both Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom to actively engage in the realization of numerous projects within this domain, underscoring a mutual commitment to advancing sustainable energy endeavors.
