Erdogan to join EU-led fund for Covid-19 vaccine
Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has disclosed plan to be part of the efforts towards the fight against coronavirus pandemic.
While disclosing this on Saturday May 2, 2020, the Turkish presidential spokesperson, Ibrahim Kalin, stated that Erdogan would support creation of EU-led fund intended to develop vaccine for the virus.
“Next week, with the participation of our president, efforts will be put to establish a join vaccine fund led by the European Union,” Kalin disclosed.
Kalin stated that Turkey would as well make huge efforts in the development of a vaccine which would require collective efforts from different countries saying that a particular mechanism would be put in place to being efforts together.
Speaking about the already ongoing efforts by the Turkish government against coronavirus, Kalin recalled that some locally ventilators had been sent to Somalia.
“These ventilators were produced in a very short time by the works of devoted Turkish engineers,” he said.
Speaking about the ventilators, Erdogan hoped that the ventilators would be of huge significance to Somalia which is experiencing shortage in ventilators to help patients fight off the virus.
“The ventilators made through technological advances will breathe new life into Somalia, which suffers from a severe shortage of ventilators,” Erdogan said.
Since the onset of the deadly Covid-19 outbreak, there have been 3.4 million cases confirmed in 187 countries and regions with the US and Europe being the worst hit.
According to a date collected by the US’ Johns Hopkins University, there are about 1.07 millions of recovery cases from the virus and 242,000 deaths globally.
