Former Minister Sabally called for removal of Yahya Jammeh from APRC in order to rescue the capsized and sinking party. He posted this on his Facebook wall on Saturday 7th of October 2017.

‘When will the APRC expel Yahya AJJ Jammeh from their party? This needs to be done if they want some segments of Gambia to take them seriously,’ said honorable Sabally.

‘He should be fired in the interest of the party; just like he used to expel top members of APRC,’ he added.

In a response to this post, an unsung Gambian socio-political activist, Omar A. Bojang, also boosted Sabally’s suggestion by saying that Gambians will no longer take APRC serious unless Yahya Jammeh is completely removed from the party.

‘The APRC has to definitely alienate themselves from Yahya Jammeh in order for Gambians to take them seriously. They have to accept the reality of the day and plan according to its dictates.

‘Political parties should anchor their existence on robust principles than on the influence of their leaders. Viable political parties are never owned by their leaders, which obviously guarantees their continues existence in the political arena irrespective of the prevailing situation,’ Omar reiterated.

However, Momodou Lamin Jatta, a Gambian Facebooker, in his response to a comment on the same post claimed that even though he disagrees with Jammeh because he is a bad son of The Gambia, he should be thanked and praised at least for the good he has done for the country. To support this claim, he added that some of Jammeh’s fellow countrymen have done worse than him but it is as if it’s very normal because nobody talks about those people; the focus is mainly on Jammeh for reasons best known to them.

While admonishing one his online followers, Honorable Sabally then called on Gambians to be patriotic by actively participating in the rebuilding of the New Gambia.

‘Well everything is open now. The country’s overall interest should guide our principles no matter what. Let us observe and participate in nation building with open minds while weighing our options for the common good,’ said Sabally.
