The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the killing of six journalists in Gaza, describing the attack as a blatant assault on press freedom and a violation of international law.

The victims — Anas Al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zāher, Mohammed Noufal, Moamen Aliwā, and Mohammad Al-Khaldi — were reportedly assassinated in a targeted Israeli army strike on a journalists’ tent in Gaza City on Sunday.

“This heinous crime is part of a series of systematic violations by Israel, the occupying power, against the media and its personnel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” the OIC said.

It noted that such actions have led to the killing of 242 journalists since October 7, 2023, in what it described as attempts to “obscure the truth, cover up daily crimes, and prevent them from reaching global public opinion.”

The OIC stressed that Israel must be held fully accountable for the incident, calling for “a thorough investigation and concrete accountability measures.”

OIC urged international bodies to act swiftly to end the deliberate targeting of journalists and media professionals in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and to ensure their protection under international humanitarian law and relevant treaties.
