In a bold show of Pan-African unity, the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) has declared its unwavering support for Burkina Faso’s leader, President Ibrahim Traoré, calling on Africans across the continent to back the country’s right to chart its own course without foreign interference.

In a statement released ahead of scheduled solidarity demonstrations, the BMD passionately urged “Africans of goodwill” to mobilize in defense of Burkinabé sovereignty, announcing two major days of action: April 30 and May 25, 2025.

“Hands Off Burkina Faso and Africa in general. Let the Burkinabé determine their own destiny,” the statement read, echoing calls for a united African front against external pressure.

The release, signed by BMD National Chairman Cde Julius K. Baitumetse, underscores the party’s firm stance on African self-governance and regional solidarity. Baitumetse emphasized that the demonstrations are not just about Burkina Faso but represent a broader resistance to neocolonialism and meddling in African affairs.

With President Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership facing international scrutiny and regional complexities, the BMD’s appeal seeks to galvanize continental support rooted in shared struggles for independence and self-rule.

“We stand in solidarity with the people and leadership of Burkina Faso,” Baitumetse stated. “It is time for progressive forces across Africa to rise and unite against interference that undermines our collective sovereignty.”
