The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has issued a strong call for an urgent investigation into shocking allegations that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been funding terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram.

These allegations, made by US Congressman Scott Perry, have sent shockwaves through Nigeria, raising troubling questions about foreign interference in the country’s long-standing fight against terrorism.

Boko Haram has waged a brutal insurgency in Nigeria for over two decades, leaving a trail of devastation, including the massacre of thousands of innocent people—predominantly Muslims in the North. If proven true, the claims that USAID provided financial support to the group would represent an unparalleled betrayal, not only to Nigeria but also to the victims of Boko Haram’s reign of terror.

One of the most alarming aspects of these allegations is the claim that USAID may have had a role in the abduction of the Chibok Girls in 2014—one of the darkest moments in Nigeria’s history. The thought that an international agency, rather than curbing terrorism, may have enabled such heinous crimes is deeply disturbing and warrants immediate action.

Furthermore, MPAC emphasized how Nigerian Muslims have long been falsely accused of supporting Boko Haram, with many unjustly branded as sympathizers in a bid to paint the insurgency as an attempt to Islamize Nigeria. The new revelations expose a shocking double standard—while Nigerian Muslims faced scrutiny, a foreign entity may have been covertly backing the very group responsible for mass killings and displacement.

MPAC is demanding that the Nigerian National Assembly take swift action by launching an immediate and thorough probe into these claims. “Our lawmakers must rise to the occasion and uncover the full extent of any foreign complicity in terrorism within our borders,” said Disu Kamor, MPAC’s Executive Chairman.

Additionally, MPAC is calling on the United States government to investigate USAID’s role and provide transparency regarding its funding channels. The American public must be assured that taxpayer dollars are not being funneled into organizations responsible for mass killings, kidnappings, and widespread suffering in Nigeria.

MPAC has vowed to keep a close watch on the situation and continue advocating for the victims of Boko Haram’s atrocities. “The Nigerian people deserve justice. If these allegations are true, those responsible must be held to account, no matter how powerful they are,” Kamor asserted.

With Nigeria already battling multiple security threats, the revelations about foreign involvement in Boko Haram’s activities could reshape the national discourse on counterterrorism efforts, foreign aid, and international relations. The time for answers is now.
