Egypt will convene an emergency summit of Arab nations on February 27 to address the “latest serious developments” concerning the Palestinian territories, the country’s foreign ministry announced on Sunday.
The summit comes amid Egypt’s efforts to rally regional opposition against a controversial proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump, which envisions relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan while placing the coastal enclave under U.S. control.
According to the statement, the summit was called following “extensive consultations by Egypt at the highest levels with Arab countries in recent days, including Palestine, which requested the summit.” The coordination also involved Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has been engaging regional partners—including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE—to solidify opposition against any forced displacement of Palestinians.
Trump’s suggestion, which includes transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” after resettling its population elsewhere, has sparked global outrage.
Arab nations have firmly rejected the idea, reiterating their stance on a two-state solution that guarantees an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.
