Israeli occupation forces reportedly opened fire Tuesday morning on civilians attempting to return to their homes in the Zeitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City.

According to WAFA, the incident occurred near Khalil al-Nubani School, where displaced residents faced gunfire as they sought to return home. Similar attacks were reported near the northeastern borders of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza.

The Palestinian Red Crescent revealed it had retrieved 10 decomposed bodies on Monday from various locations along Rashid Street in Gaza.

Displaced residents had begun returning northward on foot via Rashid and Salah al-Din Streets after spending two nights exposed to bitter cold. Many had been forced to flee south under Israeli directives but now face further displacement and uncertainty.

The conflict in Gaza has displaced over 85% of the population, forcing 1.93 million of the 2.2 million residents to flee their homes, with around 100,000 citizens leaving the Strip altogether.

Currently, 1.6 million people in Gaza endure dire living conditions in shelters and tents, struggling to survive amidst destroyed infrastructure and property.
