Saudi Arabia has welcomed the ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, urging an end to what it describes as “Israeli aggression” in Gaza after 15 months of war.

In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, the Kingdom emphasized the importance of adhering to the agreement and halting military actions in the region.

“The Kingdom stresses the need to adhere to the agreement and stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza,” the statement read.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and other Palestinian and Arab territories, urging the return of displaced individuals to their homes.

The ceasefire, mediated by Qatar, is set to begin on Sunday and includes a hostage and prisoner exchange, offering hope for de-escalation in the prolonged conflict.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia hosted a joint summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in November, during which Israel was accused of committing “genocide” in Gaza.

The Kingdom continues to advocate for Palestinian rights and the cessation of hostilities in the region.

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed at least 46,707 Palestinians and wounded 110,265 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 were taken hostage.
