Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has highlighted the gradual but steady progress in diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia, describing the trajectory as positive.

Speaking to China Media Group (CMG) during an interview conducted in Beijing last month and aired on January 4, Araghchi expressed optimism about the untapped potential in the newly restored bilateral ties.

“There is a lot of potential that hasn’t been exploited yet,” he remarked, emphasizing the opportunities that lie ahead for both nations.

Araghchi further underscored the significance of their rapprochement, stating, “The biggest achievement was reaching the decision to revive the relations that remained frozen for years,” and noted that the revival has brought mutual benefits to both sides.

The historic breakthrough in relations came in March 2023, when Iran and Saudi Arabia reached a landmark agreement, facilitated by China, to re-establish diplomatic ties.

This agreement marked the end of a seven-year period of tensions, during which embassies in both nations remained closed.

As the two nations navigate the complexities of rebuilding trust, the gradual pace of progress reflects a deliberate approach to fostering long-term, sustainable ties.
