Mossad chief pushes for strikes on Iran to halt Houthi attacks
Reports suggest Mossad chief David Barnea is urging Israeli leadership to prioritize strikes on Iran as a strategy to halt attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
According to Haaretz, Barnea raised the proposal during discussions addressing the limited success of recent Israeli strikes in Yemen. He argued that targeting Iran, which provides funding and arms to the Shiite rebel group, could be more effective in curbing the Houthis’ aggression.
“We need to go head-on against Iran,” Barnea reportedly told security officials, emphasizing that solely targeting the Houthis might not suffice to deter further attacks.
However, Netanyahu is said to have dismissed this approach, considering Iran a separate issue to be addressed later. His view reportedly aligns with that of other senior security officials.
The Houthis have intensified their campaign against Israel, launching five ballistic missiles and at least five drones over the past ten days. The group claims these actions are in support of Gaza amid Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas.
Israel has not publicly commented on the internal debates, and no official response to the reports has been issued.
