Israeli strike on Gaza post office kills 30, wounds 50 amid ongoing conflict
At least 30 Palestinians were killed, and 50 others wounded in an Israeli airstrike targeting a post office in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Thursday.
Medics reported that the post office, which was sheltering displaced families, suffered severe damage along with several nearby houses. The attack raised Thursday’s death toll in Gaza to 66.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident. Nuseirat is one of Gaza’s historic refugee camps, established for Palestinians displaced during the 1948 war, now part of a densely populated urban area housing many of Gaza’s displaced residents.
Earlier in the day, Israeli airstrikes in Rafah and Khan Younis in southern Gaza killed 13 Palestinians.
According to Gaza medics and Hamas, those killed were part of a force protecting humanitarian aid trucks.
The Israeli military stated that the strikes targeted Hamas members attempting to hijack the aid shipments. Armed gangs have reportedly disrupted aid deliveries, prompting Hamas to establish a task force that has killed over two dozen gang members in recent months, Hamas sources said.
The ongoing conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has led to widespread displacement and escalating violence.
On Wednesday, the United Nations General Assembly massively voted to demand an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire and the immediate release of all hostages seized in Israel in October 2023 and held by Hamas in Gaza.
