The New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS) Board of Directors has recognized Rabi Robert Kaplan for his dedication and service to the community.

Kaplan, who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council’s (JCRC) Center for Shared Society in New York, received the honor as he prepares to step down from his role after 32 years of leadership.

The award inscription highlighted Kaplan’s enduring impact, stating: “In grateful recognition of your continued tenacity as the Executive Director of JCRC’s Centre for Shared Society who has devoted himself to empowering the communal leadership of NYSC’s diverse community and fought unapologetically to leverage limited resources, mitigate hate crime and stem the tide of uncivil debate.”

Expressing his gratitude, Kaplan shared his thoughts in a Facebook post: “A wholly unexpected recognition by NYDIS, and its CEO Peter Gudaitis, for what I’m now framing as my ‘Stepping Forward’ from 32 years as the Executive Director and Founder of the Center for a Shared Society @ JCRCNY at the end of this month.

“NYDIS is an extraordinary organization that has served, with the caring of faith, so many impacted by disasters since 9/11. A deep Thank You for their service, partnership, and service these many years.”

Kaplan’s leadership and advocacy have left an indelible mark on New York’s diverse communities, and this recognition underscores his profound contributions to fostering understanding and resilience in the face of challenges.
