A joint force of the Sudanese army and allied factions announced on Sunday the seizure of military-grade drones and the destruction of combat vehicles belonging to the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a strategic assault near Nyala, South Darfur.
The operation targeted a supply convoy reportedly originating from Chad, marking the second such strike in the tri-border region of Chad, Libya, and Sudan within two weeks.
On November 21, a similar operation led to the interception of heavy weapons and the elimination of individuals alleged to be Colombian mercenaries near El Fasher, North Darfur.
Joint force spokesman Ahmed Hussein Mustafa stated that the latest assault resulted in the destruction of eight military vehicles and the deaths of over 30 RSF fighters. Among the captured items were three large drones capable of carrying four air-to-surface missiles each and six smaller drones equipped to carry two missiles apiece.
The joint force accused the UAE of financing and supporting the RSF by facilitating the transport of the weapons through Chad.
Addressing the UAE, the statement said: “We know that you are wasting the wealth of your people on a losing project. Defeat is your destiny in Sudan.”
The UAE has previously faced allegations of backing the RSF, reportedly channeling supplies through Chad’s Am Djaress airport into Sudan.
