UNICEF urges end to Gaza violence after death of premature baby
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called for an immediate end to attacks on hospitals in Gaza following the tragic death of a three-week-old Palestinian baby from pneumonia.
The infant, born prematurely, was unable to receive the critical neonatal intensive care he needed due to ongoing violence targeting Gaza’s medical facilities. His mother, Hala, refrained from naming him, fearing the loss of her child amidst the ongoing conflict.
“The violence must stop. Ceasefire now,” UNICEF said in a heartfelt appeal shared on social media.
The post on X reads in full: “A 3-week-old baby, born prematurely, has died of pneumonia in Gaza. His mother, Hala, hadn’t named him from fear of losing him. Attacks on hospitals are robbing vulnerable newborns of the neonatal intensive care they need. This violence must stop. Ceasefire now.”
This devastating incident is a reminder of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where medical resources and infrastructure are under relentless attack, depriving vulnerable populations of life-saving care.
