UN observes International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People
The United Nations marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, emphasizing the enduring struggles faced by Palestinians and the devastating conditions in Gaza.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) drew attention to the dire situation:
“The plight of the #PalestineRefugees remains the longest unresolved refugee crisis in the world. In the past year, #Gaza has experienced the most intense bombardment of a civilian population since World War II.”
The UN used the annual observance to shed light on the humanitarian and political challenges confronting Palestinians. The ongoing refugee crisis, spanning decades, continues to underscore the urgent need for lasting solutions to bring peace and stability to the region.
Earlier, the United Nations warned that “famine is imminent” in Gaza, where more than two million people remain trapped with little food and no access to safe drinking water.
Since the war started on October 7, 2023, Israel’s relentless attacks on Gaza have killed at least 44,330 Palestinians and wounded 104,933 At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 were taken captive.
In Lebanon, no fewer than 3,961 people have been killed and 16,520 wounded in Israeli attacks.
