The Israeli cabinet is reportedly poised to approve a ceasefire with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, driven partly by concerns over potential punitive actions from the Biden administration, including a United Nations Security Council resolution.

Citing an unnamed official, The Times of Israel reports that Israel’s decision comes amid its need for additional U.S. equipment, such as 134 D9 bulldozers, which Washington froze earlier this month.

The official emphasized that the ceasefire would not signify an end to Israel’s military campaign against Hezbollah.

“We don’t know how long it will last,” the official said. “It could be a month, it could be a year,” the official noted.

The move is being considered to balance operational goals and address diplomatic pressures as tensions in the region persist.

In Lebanon, at least 3,768 people have been killed and 15,699 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began.
