Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro wins Somaliland presidential election
The Somaliland Electoral Commission announced on Tuesday that Waddani Party leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, popularly known as Irro, has emerged victorious in the November 17 presidential election.
Irro was declared winner after securing 63.92% of the votes according to preliminary results.
His resounding win marks the beginning of his presidency, succeeding Muse Bihi Abdi, who has served for the past seven years.

Born in Hargeisa in 1955, Irro pursued his education in Hargeisa and Mogadishu before embarking on a distinguished career in public service. Between 1980 and 1988, he served as a senior diplomat for Somalia, acquiring substantial expertise in governance and international affairs.
This election, in which over one million citizens participated, has been lauded for its peaceful and orderly proceedings, reflecting Somaliland’s growing democratic maturity.
The process also included the election of a vice president, reinforcing the region’s commitment to democratic governance.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud extended congratulations to Irro and his deputy, Mohamed Aw-Ali Abdi, on their electoral success. He also commended the political parties Waddani, Kaah, and Kulmiye for contributing to Somaliland’s evolving political landscape.
