Israeli authorities have demolished the last standing mosque in the Bedouin village of Umm Al-Hiran in the Negev desert, southern Israel.

Following previous demolitions of residents’ homes, this move marks another step in a plan to displace Bedouin communities from Umm Al-Hiran, Ras Jaraba, and ten other nearby villages to establish new Jewish towns on the sites of these Arab villages.

According to reports from Arab48, police detained three men before the eventual demolition of the mosque. Their whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of this report.

Video footage, shared by the Regional Council for Unrecognised Bedouin Villages in the Negev, shows Israeli soldiers dismantling the mosque, which was condemned by the council as “another chapter in the ethnic cleansing and expulsion of Arabs in this country.”

The deadline for Umm Al-Hiran residents to evacuate is November 24, as authorities plan to replace the village with a new Jewish town named Dror.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, a member of Israel’s far-right coalition, recently endorsed his “strong policy of demolishing illegal homes in the Negev,” noting a 400 percent increase in demolition orders in the area since early 2024.
