Security heightened as France, Israel face off in Nations League match amid regional tensions
Ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Nations League match between France and Israel at Stade de France, heightened security measures are in place as French authorities remain on high alert.
Following recent clashes between Israeli fans and locals in Amsterdam, French police chief Laurent Nuñez announced the deployment of 4,000 police officers and security staff at the stadium and 1,500 additional officers on public transport.
The heightened tension has led to limited attendance, with only 20,000 of the 80,000 seats sold. Around 150 Israeli fans are expected, escorted by police. “It impacts the amount of supporters present tomorrow and everything that goes with it,” France coach Didier Deschamps acknowledged.

The match follows warnings from Israel’s National Security Council advising citizens to avoid large events abroad. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau stated that while no specific threats were identified, “zero risk does not exist,” justifying the exceptional security measures.
The elite RAID tactical unit will be present inside the stadium, with plainclothes officers mingling among fans and heightened surveillance across Paris, especially at Jewish sites. “France does not retreat… and the France-Israel match will take place,” Retailleau affirmed.
The match, is set to kick off at 8:45 p.m. local time.
