Itay Epshtain, a specialist in international humanitarian law and a special adviser to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), stated on X that “Israel has already annexed 56 square kilometres (21.6sq miles) of Gaza’s occupied territory, named the ‘Netzarim Territory’.”

He further highlighted Israel’s intentions, mentioning plans to acquire areas in North Gaza and Rafah permanently.

Epshtain emphasized that “2.2 million Palestinians are interned in Khan Younis and Al Bureij,” underscoring the severe humanitarian impact of these actions.

He urged the international community to take decisive measures, stating, “The @UN Security Council #UNSC should refer #Israel‘s use of armed force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of @Palestine_UN – in breach of the prohibition of aggression, a peremptory norm of international law – to the @IntlCrimCourt.”

His call highlights the perceived violations of international law by Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The Gaza Strip, encompassing approximately 365 square kilometers (141 square miles), is recognized as one of the most densely populated regions in the world.

Epshtain’s remarks draw attention to the critical situation faced by Palestinians in Gaza, advocating for international intervention to address the ongoing annexation and humanitarian crisis.
