Pakistan: 25 lives claimed in railway bomb blast in Balochistan province
A devastating bomb blast at a railway station in Quetta, in Pakistan‘s Balochistan province, has killed at least 25 people, with dozens more injured, as a popular morning train prepared to depart for Peshawar.
The Balochistan Liberation Army, a militant separatist group, has claimed responsibility for the bombing, which authorities believe was a suicide attack.
Balochistan’s commissioner confirmed the death toll, including the suicide bomber, with approximately 50 others wounded.
Among the casualties are both civilians and military personnel, according to senior police official Muhammad Baloch, who told the BBC that the bomber was believed to be carrying 6-8 kilograms of explosives.
The attack, which targeted a Pakistan military unit that had been returning to Quetta after completing training, marks a troubling surge in violence in the province, where separatist groups seek independence and control over resources.
Videos circulating on social media captured the explosion and the chaotic aftermath, showing injured victims and debris scattered across the platform.
Police later confirmed that 14 soldiers were among those killed in the attack.
In response, Balochistan’s chief minister condemned the bombing, calling the perpetrators “worse than animals” and vowing to “bring them to their logical end.”
Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also condemned the attack, denouncing the responsible parties as “enemies of humanity.”
