Qatar’s constitutional referendum: 51% voter turnout as citizens shape national future
Voter turnout for Qatar’s referendum on constitutional amendments reached 51%, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Voting remains open until 19:00 local time, after which vote counting will commence. Results are expected to be released within 24 hours by the General Referendum Committee.
Casting of ballots offered citizens two methods: in-person voting using paper ballots or iPads at designated polling stations with Qatari ID verification, and remote voting via the “Metrash2” app, accessible to citizens both in and outside the country.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani participated by casting his vote at the 15th Referendum Committee headquarters in Barahat Msheireb.
He underscored the significance of the referendum as a testament to the unity between Qatar’s leadership and its people, affirming that active participation fosters national unity and reflects a collective commitment to the country’s prosperity and values.
Qatar’s constitutional amendment seeks to enhance the principle of equality among citizens in rights and duties, reflecting national unity and strengthening social cohesion between the people and the leadership.
The move also seeks to strengthen the relationship between the ruling family and the Qatari people.
