Lebanon: Israeli army issues more evacuation orders for southern villages
The Israeli army has ordered the immediate evacuation of at least eight towns in southern Lebanon, ahead of potential strikes.
Residents have been instructed to relocate north of the Awali River without delay, with a spokesperson emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The latest directive prohibits civilians from traveling south, effectively restricting their movement.
The affected area spans a significant portion of Lebanon, with the United Nations estimating that it covers approximately a quarter of the country’s territory.
This is part of a broader pattern of displacement, with hundreds of villages in southern Lebanon already evacuated.
In response to the Israeli army threat to residents of Baalbek to leave the eastern Lebanese city, the regional governor told Al Jazeera that those areas are densely populated.
“I call on citizens to evacuate their areas immediately to preserve their lives. We are coordinating with the security services and the Red Cross to evacuate the residents,” the governor said.
“We want to ensure that citizens leave and arrive safely to safe areas,” the Lebanese official said. “We are facing a large and widespread targeting and the people of Baalbek-Hermel are paying a heavy price in the war.”
