Coach Hervé Renard has made a surprise return as manager of Saudi Arabia’s national team, replacing Roberto Mancini.

Renard previously led the team from 2019 to 2023, achieving a historic victory over Argentina in the 2022 Qatar World Cup group stage.

The Frenchman initially left Saudi Arabia to manage France’s women’s team at the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics. However, following Mancini’s departure, Renard has been reappointed to the helm.

Mancini, who replaced Renard in August 2023, had a tumultuous tenure as Saudi Arabia manager. The Italian coach struggled to replicate his success with Italy, leading to a mutual agreement with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to terminate his contract.

Renard expressed his excitement about returning, stating, “I am back… I did not intend to leave, but when your country knocks on your door, you have to respond.”

He also hinted at unfinished business, saying, “I did not finish my story with Saudi yet.”

Renard’s reappointment marks a new chapter for Saudi Arabian football. His previous success and experience will be crucial in revitalizing the team’s performance and achieving future successes
