OIC Secretary-General applauds French Govt. over support for Lebanon, denounces Israeli aggression

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, recently addressed the International Conference in Support of Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty in Paris, France.

He thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for organizing the conference and condemned Israel’s brutal aggression against Lebanon.

Taha reaffirmed OIC’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling for an immediate ceasefire and durable peace by implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

He also urged the international community to increase humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict, including refugees.

His plea was timely, as the conflict has caused significant displacement and human rights concerns. The conference resulted in a pledge of $1 billion to support Lebanon’s people and sovereignty.

The development is crucial, given the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, which have been playing out in Lebanon and Syria.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani have indicated that ceasefire talks are set to resume in Doha in the coming days.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that Mossad spy chief David Barnea will lead a delegation to Qatar, where he’ll meet the CIA director, William Burns, and the Qatari prime minister.
