LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 28: The march passes over Waterloo bridge on October 28, 2023 in London, England. A coalition of organisations, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, and Stop the War Coalition, are demanding an end to the siege of the Gaza Strip, which Israel imposed three weeks ago after Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that governs Gaza, launched a deadly attack on communities in southern Israel. No fewer than 30,000 protesters took to the streets of London on Saturday to demand an end to Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, and the lifting of the brutal blockade that has trapped over thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza.

The protest, organized by the Palestine Coalition, called for immediate action to stop the ongoing genocide and hold those responsible accountable.

Adnan Hmidan, Acting Chairman of the Palestinian Forum in Britain, emphasized the need to lift the siege on Jabalia Camp, now in its 14th day, and to remind the world of the continuous crimes of the occupation.

Protesters also expressed outrage at the British government’s continued support for Israel, despite its repeated violations of international law.

The situation in Gaza is dreadful, with nowhere considered safe due to Israel’s total siege, depriving 2.3 million Palestinians of basic necessities like water, food, fuel, medicine, and medical supplies. The siege has been ongoing for 17 years, making approximately half of the people in Gaza food insecure and over 80% reliant on aid.

Protesters demanded an end to British arms sales to Israel and urged the government to impose sanctions on the Israeli regime, which has killed over 42,000 civilians, mostly women and children.

Speakers at the protest highlighted the importance of sustained public pressure, international intervention, and unity among pro-Palestinian movements to counter Israeli violence.

The demonstration comes as Israel’s reckless attacks on Gaza continue, with non-stop bombing of residential areas causing widespread devastation and escalation of the humanitarian crisis.

Protesters called for continued pressure on the international community to act, ensuring accountability for war crimes committed and an end to violence against Palestinian civilians.
