Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, stating that he was killed by Israeli soldiers.

Katz described Sinwar as the mastermind behind the October 7 massacre and atrocities, calling his elimination a significant military and moral achievement for Israel and a victory against radical Islam led by Iran.

According to Katz, Sinwar’s death opens the possibility for the immediate release of hostages and paves the way for a new reality in Gaza, free from Hamas and Iranian control.

Katz adds: “This is a significant military and moral achievement for Israel and a victory for the entire free world against the axis of evil of radical Islam led by Iran.

“The elimination of Sinwar opens the possibility for the immediate release of the hostages and paves the way for a change that will lead to a new reality in Gaza—without Hamas and without Iranian control.”

Sinwar was appointed by Hamas in August to succeed Ismail Haniyeh as political chief at-large, following Haniyeh’s assassination.

His leadership is seen as a symbol of defiance against the Israeli government, given his central role in Hamas’ activities in Gaza.

The Israeli government’s pursuit of Sinwar has intensified as part of its broader efforts to counter Hamas, a group it considers a major security threat.
