Video: Mass burial held for victims of devastating tanker explosion in Muslim-dominated Jigawa State
Islamic funeral rites have been conducted for scores of victims who lost their lives in a tanker explosion in a Muslim-dominated Majia town in Jigawa State, northern Nigeria.
A statement by the spokesman of the Jigawa State Command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the explosion was triggered by petrol that leaked from the tanker into a gutter.
He added that villagers attempted to scoop petrol from the drainage, leading to the fire that engulfed the area.

“Unfortunately, villagers attempted to scoop petrol from the drainage, resulting in a flame that engulfed the area and many people were reportedly perished.”
The incident was met with widespread mourning, as evident in a video posted by X user @ImranMuhdz, showing the mass burial of over 100 victims.
This heartbreaking scene underscores the severity of the disaster and the immense loss suffered by the community.
Tanker explosions are not uncommon in Nigeria. There have been several reported incidents in the past, including the Ibadan tank truck explosion in the year 2000, which killed between 100 and 200 people.
These tragic events highlight the need for increased safety measures and emergency preparedness to mitigate the impact of such disasters
