Tributes have started pouring in following the announcement of Indian tycoon Ratan Tata, who died aged 86.

Many on social media describe Ratan Tata’s death as a personal loss. This is not surprising because he was able to connect with the masses.

Tata was one of India’s most globally recognized business leaders, with the Tata Group being one of the country’s largest conglomerates.

During his tenure as chairman, the company acquired major brands, including UK-based carmaker Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley, the world’s second-largest tea company.

Tata stepped down as chairman of the Tata Group in 2012, though he briefly returned in an interim capacity. At the time of his passing, he held the title of chairman emeritus.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Tata as a “visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.”

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani said Tata’s death had “filled me with immense grief as I lost a dear friend”.

“Ratan Tata was a visionary industrialist and a philanthropist, who always strove for society’s greater good,” Ambani said in a statement.

Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Indian parliament, described Tata as “a man with a vision”.
“He has left a lasting mark on both business and philanthropy,” Gandhi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Reports in India disclosed that Tata’s body will be kept at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai before the state funeral on Thursday evening.
