Lebanese authorities arrest Syrian nationals for spying for Israel

The Lebanese military has announced the arrest of two Syrian nationals on suspicion of espionage for Israeli authorities.
According to a statement released by the Lebanese military, the suspects were detained for allegedly photographing various locations and documenting the aftermath of enemy airstrikes.
The military stated that the suspects’ actions were intended to provide intelligence to Israeli authorities, sparking concerns about potential security breaches. The arrests come amidst heightened tensions between Lebanon and Israel, with cross-border hostilities escalating in recent months.

The arrests were “a result of surveillance and follow-up of Israeli spy networks and enemy agents” it said, adding that the accused were allegedly “recruited through social media”.
“The investigation with the two detainees has begun under the supervision of the competent judiciary,” the military added.
The incident highlights the complex web of regional alliances and rivalries, with Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement actively involved in the conflict.
As investigations continue, Lebanese authorities remain vigilant, seeking to prevent further espionage activities that could compromise national security.
Meanwhile, Israel’s military continues to pound Lebanon, killing at least five people in the southern town of Wardaniyeh, and another five paramedics in the Tyre district.
