Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign is making efforts to regain support from American Muslim and Arab leaders who are upset about U.S. involvement in Israel’s conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.

On Wednesday, Harris’ national security adviser, Phil Gordan, met with community leaders virtually to address their concerns. Gordan pledged the administration’s commitment to a ceasefire in Gaza, diplomatic efforts in Lebanon, and stability in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

However, not everyone is satisfied with Harris’ outreach. Ali Dagher, a Lebanese-American attorney and community leader, expressed disappointment, saying, “It’s too little, too late.” Dagher did not participate in the meeting, but his sentiments reflect the frustration felt by some in the community.

Despite this, Harris has received endorsement from Emgage, a prominent Muslim American advocacy group. Nevertheless, analysts warn that the community’s dissatisfaction could impact Harris’ campaign, as some may choose not to vote or opt for third-party candidates instead.

This could potentially harm Harris’ chances, especially since these voters have not supported Trump.

The Biden-Harris administration has taken steps to address concerns around Islamophobia and discrimination, including the development of a national strategy to counter Islamophobia and related forms of bias.

However, the community’s trust and support will likely require more concerted efforts and tangible actions from Harris’ campaign.
