UAE slams Sudan over attack on diplomatic residence
The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned an attack on the residence of its ambassador in Khartoum, calling it a “heinous attack.”
According to the UAE’s foreign ministry, the attack, carried out by a Sudanese military aircraft, resulted in extensive damage to the building. The Sudanese army has yet to comment on the accusation.
The incident occurred amidst an ongoing conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April last year between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over the country’s transition to free elections.
The humanitarian situation remains dire, with nearly 25 million people – half of Sudan’s population – requiring aid. Famine looms, and approximately 8 million people have been displaced.

In response to the attack, the UAE highlighted the importance of safeguarding diplomatic buildings and embassy staff residences, citing international treaties and customs that govern diplomatic relations.
The UAE’s foreign ministry stressed, “The Ministry stressed the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and embassy staff residences, in accordance with the treaties and customs that regulate diplomatic relations.”
The UAE has called on the Sudanese army to assume full responsibility for the aggressive act. The international community continues to monitor the situation, urging restraint and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
