Qatar Charity (QC), with funding from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has launched a critical relief intervention in Sudan, providing vital food packages and tents to those affected by the devastating collapse of the Arba’at Dam in the Red Sea State.

This disaster resulted in significant damage to dozens of villages and numerous casualties.

The local authorities, communities, and those impacted in Arba’at and surrounding villages have expressed widespread gratitude for QC’s intervention. Individuals affected by the dam’s collapse have expressed deep gratitude for QC’s rapid response, which provided essential shelter and food assistance in a timely manner.

Sayed Ohaj, one of the affected individuals, highlighted the substantial damage to properties, livestock, and farmland, resulting in loss of lives. He commended QC’s prompt arrival and much-needed assistance.

QC’s field teams overcame significant challenges to reach affected villages, setting up tents and distributing food packages to hundreds of impacted individuals.

Tariq Mohiuddin, acting director of QC’s Sudan Office, emphasized that QC’s intervention is part of its urgent humanitarian efforts to support families affected by floods and heavy rains across several Sudanese states.

Sudan is in a state of comatose after violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), on April 15, 2023.

The clashes have displaced over 10.2 million people, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), asylum seekers, and refugees.

The conflict has intensified Sudan’s pre-existing challenges, such as ongoing internal conflicts, disease outbreaks, economic and political instability, and climate-related crises.
