As fighting continues in his country, the Lebanese caretaker Public Health Minister Firas Abiad has announced that the death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since October 8 has reached 1,640, with 8,408 people injured.

In a press conference, Abiad outlined the casualties resulting from the Israeli strikes and highlighted the services provided to the growing number of displaced individuals following airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs.

He specified that, as of October 8, 2023, 1,640 people have died, including 104 children and 194 women, while 8,408 individuals have been injured. He added that many victims remain trapped under rubble, with missing persons and dismembered bodies still unaccounted for.

Abiad further reported 11 additional fatalities and 108 new injuries since yesterday. In the health sector alone, the conflict has claimed the lives of 41 people and injured 111.

He confirmed that no hospitals have been rendered inoperative, but to ease the burden on hospitals in heavily targeted areas, the Lebanese Ministry of Health has begun evacuating patients to other facilities for continued treatment.

Lebanon has faced widespread Israeli strikes across various regions, particularly in the southern villages and towns, resulting in nearly 3,000 deaths and injuries, as residents continue to flee the targeted areas in large numbers.
