The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has taken responsibility for “attacking” Hezbollah targets in the Bekaa Valley.

Reports say the area is a Hezbollah stronghold in north-east Lebanon.

Earlier on Saturday, the IDF said it detected 10 rockets launched from Lebanon after sirens had been triggered in Israel’s Upper Galilee region.

In a statement, the IDF confirmed that some of the rockets were intercepted, without mentioning any damage or injuries to civilians or its military personnel.

“The IDF continues to attack, damage and degrade Hezbollah’s military capabilities and infrastructure in Lebanon,” it said in a statement.

A senior US official revealed to CBS News that Israel’s recent series of devastating air strikes on Beirut were specifically aimed at Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. However, an Israeli official cautioned that it was premature to confirm whether Nasrallah had been hit.

The airstrikes, described by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as “very accurate,” targeted Hezbollah’s stronghold in Dahieh, southern Beirut, and struck multiple buildings.

The latest update from Lebanon’s health ministry reported at least six fatalities and 91 injuries resulting from Friday’s strikes.

The aerial assault followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defiant speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, where he pledged to continue attacking Hezbollah despite international appeals for a temporary ceasefire.
