Hamas denounces Israeli ‘escalation’ as Beirut bombardment intensifies

Gaza’s Hamas authorities, embroiled in a nearly year-long conflict with Israel, vehemently condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanon.

In a statement, Hamas expressed strong opposition to the “brutal and ongoing Zionist aggression and escalation against the brotherly Lebanese people through savage air strikes.”

Friday’s bombing targeted a densely populated neighbourhood, home to hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians. The Israeli military claimed the strike hit Hezbollah’s central headquarters in Beirut, unleashing a series of powerful explosions that marked the most intense bombardment in the Lebanese capital in the past year.

Hamas’s condemnation comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, exacerbating the region’s volatile situation. The Gaza-based militant group’s statement underscored the solidarity with “the brotherly Lebanese people” and emphasised the need for unified resistance against Israeli aggression.

The intensifying conflict has raised concerns about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza and Lebanon, with fears of further escalation and regional instability.
